Press Release: Japan Day & Student Fair 2012

Hosted by the Institute for the Liberal Arts, Doshisha University and ACS Cobham International School!

Venue: ACS Cobham International School (Esher, UK) High School, Portsmouth Road, Cobham, Surrey KT11 1BL, England

This event is for prospective students, teachers, careers advisers.

Advance registration is necessary. Please register by email with your name, school, occupation.

Schedule: 

Student Fair

4 pm – 6:30 pm

Consult with professors and representatives from various universities:

The Institute for the Liberal Arts at Doshisha University

Keio University

Kyushu University

Ritsumeikan University

Waseda University

Pamphlets will be available from other universities (for example, Sophia University).

Workshops 

5 pm – 6:30 pm 

  • Manga

Get feedback on your work. Chie Katsuwada, a manga creator and illustrator from Umisen-Yamasen and INKO, a culture and language ambassador with the School of Oriental and African Studies, will display their work and conduct a workshop.

  • Calligraphy

Write your own name in kanji. Yukiko Ayres, a professional calligrapher and dojin (the level above shihan or master) will help you select the perfect kanji for your name.

  • Ikebana

Try your hand at Ikebana. Miyoko Williamson, from the Ikenobo Ikebana Society U.K.London Chapter will demonstrate and display Ikebana, the art of flower arrangement.

  • Tea ceremony

Practice the tea ceremony. Qualified tea ceremony master (shihan) Atsuko Console will show you how.

  • Origami

Learn origami: The art of paper folding.

  • Yukata (cotton kimono)

Try on summer kimono. Get your picture taken wearing a cotton kimono (yukata).
