FREE London Concert By Hokusai Chamber Orchestra

On Monday, 10th September 2012 the Hokusai Chamber Orchestra will give a free lunchtime concert at St. Martins in the Fields in London. The performance starts at 13.00 and will last approximately 45 minutes. Latecomers will be admitted to the church when there is a suitable break in the programme. A collection is taken at the end of the concert which goes towards the work of St Martin’s.
Programme – Schoenberg – Verklarte Nacht
Hokusai Chamber Orchestra has a core membership of 17 energetic and talented young instrumentalists from Japan, UK and Europe, who are based in London. The Orchestra have performed several charity concerts for the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami during 2011/12 season. It is an ambition of the Orchestra to visit Japan and to perform in the Tôhoku earthquake affected area possibly during 2012.
Born in North Japan, conductor Akiko Ohtomo studied Music and Conducting in Tokyo, also working during that time as an assistant conductor to Mstislav Rostropovich in Kobe; and to Naoto Otomo for the opera Jr.Butterfly by Shigeaki Saegusa at the 52nd Puccini Festival in Italy.
Akiko established the Hokusai Chamber Orchestra, drawing on the gifts, talents and energies of young Japanese and European professionals currently working in London. Currently, she leads orchestras mainly in London.
