Meiko Kaji as Lady Snowblood

About Lady Snowblood 1 & 2

Originally adapted from Kazuo Kioke and Kzuo Kamimura’s manga manuscripts, Lady Snowblood and its sequel Lady Snowblood: Love Song Of Vengeance tell the twisted tale of Yuki, a woman raised from birth for one terrible, blood splattering purpose… murder!

Expertly played by the beautiful but vicious Meiko Kaji (Female Prisoner Scorpion, Blind Woman’s Curse), Yuki first sets out to maim those who raped her mother and left her rotting in a stinking women’s prison, where she would later die during childbirth. Trained in deadly fighting arts and masterful sword play, our new found heroine – Lady Snowblood – is cursed to wander the lands in pursuit of her targets.

Then, in the second piece of this ultra-violent pie, the stirring sequel – Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance – Yuki is caught up in the corrupt and murderous world of politics. As she works with the secret police, spying on anarchists and enemies of the status quo, expect yet more outrageous revenge and – of course – fountains of blood.

From legendary Japanese director Toshiya Fujita, the two blood-splattered Samurai masterpieces are credited as the main inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill series.

Kill Bill borrows plot lines, characters, visual motifs (check out the comparision below) and scenic settings from its seminal 1970s predecessor. In particular, the character O-Ren Ishii is based on Lady Snowblood herself. The famous Kill Bill scene in which The Bride fights O-Ren Ishii uses a snowy landscape that echoes scenes in Lady Snowblood.

Thank you!! It’s so great that so many talents in Japan embrace so much more than their main careers…with music always such a common venture to explore. I always love whenever i learn that someone familiar or not is also a music artist and at times I backtrack an idol or actress’ career to find that they too also explored music and even if it’s for just a lone single it’s still most wonderful (=.

You made some valid points, Morning Berryz. It’s interesting that even back in the 1970’s it was the norm for many actors and actresses to record the theme song for their films. It’s still going on today; Rina Takeda from Karate Girl is a case in point. I guess many actors and actresses have a background in music to some degree. I’m very much like you in that I find myself backtracking a particular artists’ career. There’s still so much to discover.

I’ve read the manga, but haven’t seen the films, though I have watched clips on Youtube, and listened many times to the theme song, Shura no Hana, which of course features in the Kill Bill Soundtrack. I think I’d make a worthy winner, but that’s just my opinion.
