Japan Film Society Announces Film Lineup For LA EigaFest 2014

(Hollywood, CA) August 30, 2014The Japan Film Society announced the film line-up for the 4th Annual LA EigaFest to be held September 12th – 14th at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The festival will open with the international premiere of Lupin the Third, director Ryuhei Kitamura’s contemporary, live-action adaption of the classic Manga series. The film’s premiere will be attended by Kitamura and the film’s star Meisa Kuroki. The festival will close with Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, the highly anticipated sequel to Japanese blockbuster Rurouni Kenshin.

In celebration of Godzilla’s 60th anniversary, Godzilla: The Japanese Original (1954) will be screened back-to-back with Warner Brothers’ and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla (2014), offering fans a rare opportunity to watch the big screen progression of perhaps the most distinguishable monster in film history.

Additional films screening at LA EigaFest 2014 include: Ask this of Rikyu, Genome Hazard, Giovanni’s Island, Godzilla: The Japanese Original, Samurai Hustle, Riding the Breeze, Blossoms Bloom, Shiren & Ragi, Bilocation, A Tale of Samurai Cooking, and Wood Job!. All films will be screened with English subtitles. Additional special guests to LA EigaFest 2014’s will continue to be announced.

LA EigaFest 2013 was attended by thousands with notable attendees including Oliver Stone, Ken Watanabe, and Masi Oka.

LA EigaFest 2014 will also screen five films vying for the Golden Zipangu Award in the short film competition. Additional screenings include the winning films from the World Gate Film Festival in Japan, special Ninja Anime screenings from JVTA, and select shorts from the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. The festival is also holding a Matsuri (Japanese street fair) at the Egyptian Courtyard on Saturday, September 13th which will include festival games, Japanese street food, and more.

The festival will also hold a business panel on Saturday, September 13th at the Loews Hollywood Hotel presented by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Film Society (JFS). Panelists for the business panel will include All You Need Is Kill author Hiroshi Sakurazaka, entertainment attorney Masahisa Mitsunaga, and a special guest. The panel will be moderated by Japan Film Society president and LA EigaFest Festival Director Hayato Mitsuishi.

In collaboration with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the 2nd Annual Japan Cool Content Contribution Awards (J3C Awards) will be given out at a ceremony at the Consulate General Japan’s Los Angeles residence on Saturday, September 13th. The award honors Hollywood creators who bring Japanese content to a worldwide audience. This year’s J3C Award honorees are Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Swingers, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Edge of Tomorrow star Tom Cruise and Legendary Pictures for producing for their summer blockbuster Godzilla.
